'88 TPI heads compatability

I have a 350 in my '73 Nova from a '77 Impala, but the heads are 882 castings, (smog heads). I decked 015" off of them, but my comp. is still pretty low, (76cc). I have a stock 350 from my tpi motor, (center bolt valve covers), and was wondering if I would benifit from swapping these heads on to the 350. In the Nova, I built the motor pretty wild, a big cam, and stock replacement TRW forged pistons. I have stainless steel, swirl polished valves, and the correct springs that I can just swap, (194, 150), and headers. The 882s are ported alot but they just don't have the compression. I would probably just clean the casting flash, and port match them, then ,maybe deck them too. I'd like to run a Edelbrock Performer RPM, or equvilant.

Thoughts?

You'd really have to remove a lot of iron to make the '882s flow respectably at all. The '083s are likely a lot better starting point, but not anything as spectactular as aftermarkets. Still, they'll likely feed the engine better and allow the compression you're looking for with the 64cc chambers.

Are 083 the TPI heads? I haven't looked at them to see the casting #s.

But, would they fit on the earlier block? Are the bolt holes in the right places? Are the ports going to match up? Do they have 194, and 150 valves? Do the water ports match? I only have an alternator, and power steering. Do the heads have the same accessory holes?

These are the things that I was wondering.

Re: the 083's. Everything will bolt together fine, only difference will be the inner 4 intake holes or get one for '87?-up. The 083's are 1.94/1.5 valves, all ports are the same, and they have all accessory holes.

What about the inner 4 bolt holes? How are they different? Are they not angled or something? And when you say "or get one for '87?-up", do you mean an intake that is made for '87 and up?

Yes, the inner 4 holes in the head that the intake bolts too, are at a different angle, many just elongate the intake manifold holes...in fact, my Accel base is done in the casting that way, in order to use it on both newer or older style heads.

And yes, I was referring to using an '87-up intake manifold.
