Valley Grime

removed the intake of my 87' iroc, that i recently got for 500 dollars.

the clown i bought it from didn't buy a thermosat gasket, decided to use a whole tube of RTV.

intake came off,and there is a ****load of nasty *** grime and sludge all sitting in the valley. couple leaves laying in there. (after taking off the plenum i found a nacho chip sitting there)

i got a picture on the camera, but i'll put it up tomorrow. the car has 110k miles.

whats the cause of all that grime and slude in there? it's disgusting, and obviously not good. the RTV style gasket on the thermostat housing was leaking,so the top of the intake manifold itself wasn't that clean,so i can't really tell if it's so ****ty because of the intake manifold leaking.

thanks

The car was not taken care of...poor oil/not changing the oil for prolonged periods of time will cause sludge...use a good engine flush and switch to a synthetic oil.
Nacho chip under the intake is a new one..

Yeah....I've heard of that one.... It's happen when some @%#& hole takes the intake off and leaves it off for a year. It creates a leak in the Dorito filter, allowing all kinds of stuff to get thru.

Tha sux bro.... better keep an eye on that one. Check the oil for water and antifreeze. And for the cars sake, take the crap out of the valley b4 putting the intake back on.....

Edit - Without pics it's hard to tell, but some people don't use oil with detergent in it (not dish soap, but a chemical that keeps the oil from sludging up) and it will gum up real bad after long use without an oil change. Most off the shelf stuff has detergent, but some of the really cheap stuff doesnt...that's Y they use it....
