TPI Swap (Somewhat Different Vehicle)

I know that the TPI setup will fit my engine since I am using 1992 accessories on it. My question is how would a 1980s MAF tpi run on my engine. It is a .030" 350, ported 305 TPI heads, 1996 Vette LT1 Cam, 1.6:1 Rockers, and headers. It runs great with a carb but not so great with a 350 TBI setup. I am thinking the 350 would have more low-end pulling power with the TPI setup. In case your wondering it is a 1983 G20 Van. Just looking for some TPI input.

Wether you do the MAF or the speed density setup, it will need tuning to get near perfect. As for the torque, you are correct that you will gain a lot more on the low end, but compared to the TBI, it will choke out the upper range a little bit.

The MAF will be better if you aren't going to get into tuning chips.

Your combo is way out of the range of a stock truck 350 TBI. That's most certainly why it's running poorly. You need a custom burned PROM to make the setup you've got work. The cam is the biggest problem, because it is so far away from a stock truck cam, which basically craps out by 4,800. In truth, I'd just stick with the TBI setup and burn a PROM for it.

The TPI really doesn't get you very much in terms of performance over the TBI. It isn't a sequential EFI system. It's batch fire, just like the TBI. In fact the two systems are much more alike than they are different. A TPI intake would really choke your engine too. The TPI is done by 5,200 RPM, but with your cam you should be looking for peak power in the 6,000 RPM range. You're actually better off with the TBI. Upgrade to an Edelbrock intake though, and a bigger throttle body from Holley. You'll be happier with that setp IMO.
