Youre project is mirroring mine except, my cam is .544/.555 lift and heads are AFR w/65cc. I'm a few days behind you though, I'm painting my block right now while I'm waiting for my micrometer set to get here. Youre motor looks sweet, it's gonna haul!!

i run a stock pan on my 388 , i think the differance is if you use a aftermarket rod or a stock gm rod and also if the machine shop clearances for the stock pan baffle, i have also seen stock pans that were made for 3.75 stroke i mean they had a 3.75 stroke in the sbc 400's so it is not totally unreallistic that a stock pan would work

Agreed. Is there a difference between a 350/305 pan and a 400 pan?

Sounds like you are running the Holley Commander 950 setup for the computer. Do you have any experience tuning that thing? Thanks for the detailed parts list and costs. I hate when people just list the motor cost only and not any of the accesories to make it run.

I like the setup just curious about the computer setup?

yes i have the C950 setup and the Base map that comes with it for the 383 is close to my setup. hopefully it works. but holley sends a big book that explains all. shouldn't be too hard. Hopefully my computer works with the software i have no serial pot and the software only works with com ports 1-4

I don't think so, other than 400s have the dipstick on the driver's side, which is what I think it was for all 1980-earlier SBCs. I've bought the generic $30 oil pans from Summit before for my 400 and they fit fine.

I'm not a thirdgen guy, so I don't know what issues there are with trying to convert from a passenger side dipstick to driver's side.

I used one of those summit pans on my 400. I didnt think there was any problems either. Until I pulled the motor for a rebuild and found out the crank was hitting the side of the pan. Right at the rail area. You couldnt hear it because of the loud exhaust but you could see it on the pan. I just hit it a few times with the hammer before it went back together.
