$1000 tpi build up
$1000 tpi build up
I have a 90 iroc with a 305 in it. the 305 has a bad knock on #1 cyl. so i bought a 350 roller long block setup that has been sonic tested and deemed worthy. the bore is .030. it has stock crank and rods. i was hoping to switch all the 305 tpi stuff to make it a tpi motor. i know i need to switch injectors get the 350 knock sensor and a 350 prom. What would be the best bang for the buck to rebuild this? I do plan to run a 100-125 shot of nitrous. my budget is $1000
How high can i go with the comp ratio
What cam
what rebuild kit
any thing else that you guys know from experiance.
i do plan to siamese the runners and port match the plennum and manifold and do that airfoil k&n filters.
Thanks for any help guys

Don't forget to change the EGR to a 350 EGR. You won't pass smog if you don't.

IMO use the stock crank/balancer/flexplate, get some cheap aftermarket rods, I'm trying to sell a set of 6" press fit ones that would work perfect for your situation
, and use some hyperuetectic pistons that get your compression where you want it. If you don't have the stock crank/balancer/flexplate, then i'd figure on another $300 to build the motor, but while your there you could make it a 383 for another $50.
Just start shopping around, you can cut some corners on machining, (not align boring, zero decking, etc), by re-using stock fasteners, and by just using a cheap baseline felpro gasket kit (or buy a whole engine kit with the pistons).
The hotcam is hard to beat on a budget, but probably won't be good to pass smog without burning your own chips. I'm not a big fan of the zz4, but getting the right springs on it for the lift and fixing any retainer/valve guide interference issues won't be a problem with the heads off the car. Also check out the camaroz28 forums, you could buy about any used slightly bigger than stock lt1 cam on there and just cut the dowl pin down.
As for EGR, I doubt it would make a difference, but the closest area that does smog is 7 hours away, so i'm not used to messing with it.
