okay, need help.

Okay, i know ive made a similar post to this one before, im sorry.

but here is whats going on.

i have a dead 86 305 tpi (think its the fuel pump)

and im buying a 84 350 carb

the 84 is in x1000 better condition (like holy ****)

and I just want to know, since I am going to be junking the 86 (trust me, its junk worthy) then what should I be ripping off of it?

also, if anyone needs parts, im willing to sell....

im thinking of taking the engine, ripping it down, taking the heads off. keeping the heads and intake manifolds.

then whatever body parts i want (i know im stealing the tail lights) and the door panels.

are there any parts that I should want to keep off the 86 other than the ones ive said?

also, im not the best mechanic, I would take and save my transmission but i dont have a cherry picker to help pull it out

so what should i keep???

Dude, the tranny is easy.

1) Put your car on ramps/jackstands

2) Take off your driveshaft

3) Take each bolt out of the motor mounts

4) Take off the Speedo Cable/Undo TV Cable

5) Drop Tranny Mount down

It will look like this

-------------------------
------00x00x00-------
----x000000000x-----
----00000000000-----
----x000000000x------

That is sort of a wierd representation of the tranny bellhousing. But with the tranny dropped down you should have no problem taking off those top two bolts. = Done!

so after i put it on stands, i undo the driveshaft, then take out the bolts of the moter mounts?

and the trans will just hang down?

ive never done anything close to this (ive replaced my starter) and i dont want to get something over my head

I usually put a hydraulic jack underneath the back of the trans and it /should/ slowly come down. Then all you have to do is unbolt it and manhandle it off the engine. (Another jack might come in handy underneath the main body.

Anybody else have any tips for him?

If your junking the whole car take out the engine wiring harness.
try to get all of it. sombody will buy that on here or E-bay. combine it with the distributor, MAF and ECM should get you at least $100 if it is not too butchered up.
Get some buck back for go fast parts on the new ride.

And of course put a block of wood on the jack so you don't crush the pan.

i was going to dismantle the engine, take the heads and the tpi intake and save them, but when i tried to unbolt the runners i screwed up my star bit (it was the right size, it just twisted it) and I have a very bad feeling this car is going to be a bitch to work on.

also, if i save the heads, can i get them ported/polished and then put them on the 350 im getting?

Yea, Your gonna have to take the tranny lines off too. And the gear selector cable as well. (easy).

Maybe you'd be best calling a friend who has some experience to help you out!

If your going to junk the car anyway just do the transmission, It cant hurt it right? if you screw up its junk: if you dont do it it's junk.
I would also suggest taking off the whole TPI and selling it people pay good money for them.
Take ANY salvagable interior parts too, theres always that one person who needs just that one peice of plastic to finish their car off. Dash pad?? I know I need one. What about the rims and tires? The glass is also a part that people sometimes need. These are just suggestions but i figure take anything that works/ looks good and sell it there is always someone that needs it and if you dont take it off it will just go in the junk yard, check out the classifieds here to see what other people need/ are selling. thats just my $.02
