4 wire dist. plug....WTF?! one broken wire?

lately iv been trying to get my car running right and i figured that i must have a broken distributor wire. when i run my car itll run really rich and itll cut out, and if i wiggle the 4 wire connector/whip itll cut the car right off. so im not sure how to go about testing to see if the wires are partially touching/broken. but it hessitates when i rev it up from idle and like i said its running extremely rich, anyone have any clue what wire is actually the bad one, i think i narrowed it down to either a black/w red stripe? or tan with black? im not sure if i remembered the colors correctly or not but there is deffinately something fishy going on. also it would make a slight spark knock reving it up from idle. i have a volt tester so i could test that if anyone knew what to check the volts at. any help would be appreciated.

It would probably be best to simply get a new connector and replace the original. You'll eliminate all the potential problem that way.

You can try to test the resistance across the connector by piercing the wires on either side of the harness and wigling the connector, but it seems that you've already identified a problem there.
