T.P.I. distributor question

I have a 86 IROC TPI 305 parts car but it doesn't have a distributor. I want to try to see if the engine runs or not but I've got to find a distributor for it. My question is I found a V8 Cadillac that has a distributor that has the plugs on it but will it work or even fit in a chevy 305?

What year/model/engine in the Cadillac? Some of them were Chevy engines. A purely Cadillac engine would not have a distributor interchangable with a Chevy.

I'm not sure about the year or size of engine but it was fairly newer Probably in the 90's. I was at a junkyard and saw a V8 front whel drive caddy with an engine that "looked" like a chevy engine but with all the "stuff" on it I wasn't for sure. I just saw the distributor had the plug with four wires coming oof the side like what plugs into the computer harness. What models were chevy engines?
