heads?
I still have a little bit of confusion on the heads for my car.
I run a stock 350 (87') which have centerbolt heads.
I have seen people suggesting using Vortec heads. I thought you could only run those on older blocks with the non centerbolt pattern. I noticed the price is alot better than afr and that helps alot.
Other mods I plan on getting:
Some cam.. no idea yet, any sug. on specs are apreciated
Obviously the heads... sug. would be helpful
Edelbrock Headers
TPI Fast Pack which includes - Fuel Pressure Reg., Air Foil, Plugs, Wires, Air Filter
I dont like spending a lot of money on mods that dont get me that much hp, like runners...400 bucks for 10 hp not worth it.
I am also considering a Mini Ram
All feedback welcome

Vortec heads have a higher port to create more velocity. You can use them, but you have to get a vortec manifold. SDPC2000.com has them to run with regular TPI.
TPIS.com has a mini-ram for the vortec heads, but it is kind of expensive, as with everything else they carry.
Edelbrock headers aren't bad, but they certainly aren't the best. Take it from me, I still have them on my car. Hedman has some really good ones that some smart people here swear by, so I trust them.
Skip the TPI Fast Pack, it's just money out the door. Get a K&N filter, don't worry about the air foil, nearly every aftermarket TB has one. For the plugs, AFPR, and the wires, you can see what everyone else is using and it will be cheaper.
I agree with teh $400 for 10hp, but it is the cam, heads, and valvetrain that work with them better. If you are going to build an engine and need a lot more air than the stock TPI can give, you would need to purchase aftermarket runners anyway.

The specs are:
218/224 @.50
.495/.503 @1.5 lift
112* C/L (Lobe Seperation Angle).
Comp says that this cam is for TPI with aftermarket chip and upgraded exhaust.
If I knew that you were going to up your stall and run gears numerically higher than 3.08 ratio, I would suggest the XR276HR camshaft. You would need to upgrade the TPI intake with ported/aftermarket runners, manifold, and plenum. The only real problem, besides stall, gears, and intake is you will need one heck of a tune to get this thing to run properly. The MAF will help out with a larger cam, but everything from idle to WOT will be a pain to tune.
The cam specs are:
224/230 @ 0.50
.503/.510 @1.5 lift
112* C/L (Lobe Seperation Angle)
Best cam for modified 350TPI with Improved chip, injectors, plenum, runners, exhaust, and at least 2000 stall.

If you go with Edelbrock headers you will need to go with a head that has Straight plugs.
Dart makes an Alm head that is perfect for our cars & they come where you can put either center bolt valve covers on or outer bolt.(they have both set ups right on the same head)Oh those are Dart 180 heads
This is the Cam I went with for my 355 HRS set up
PN 74216
LPE SBC EFI Camshafts L98 & LT1 Hydraulic Roller SBC
305-420
213/219
.493/.502
w 1.6 rocker 112 CL
