CAI is in!!!

I finally got all the parts for it and got it installed today. I love how it looks and I can feel a little difference in power since I put it in.

I do want to thank Roostmeyer for all his help with this. I wouldn't have been able to do it without his help with this. Thanks you were a big help. Here are some pics of it installed in the car. I still think I need to shave down the overflow line coming out of the radiator because it does bind up a bit and I dont want it to get pluged at all. Take a look at these.

Looks good. Did you use 3.00" tubing? On my CAI I relocated the radiator overflow outlet to the side. I then plugged up the factory location with an Allen set screw.

Yes it is all 3 inch tubing. I think just cutting down the outlet coming out of the radiator a bit will do the trick. It looks to be working fine right now, I just want to be careful and make sure it doesnt get pluged up when the car starts to heat up and blow off the cap because of too much pressure.

You are probably right with the 3" tubing. I ran the 3.5" tubing and needed to relocate the overflow outlet to obtain proper clearance. Allen

Your CAI looks great, I have a similar setup but I still used the stock air duct from the mass air to the throttle body. I would like to add a piece in like yours. Could you tell me where you got the rubber piece on the throttle body that goes from oval to round. Also is that aluminum tubing or stainless. Thanks

Subliminal is right. I got it at Lowes and it wasn't that expensive. The tubing that I used is polised aluminum madrel bent 3 inch tubing.

Oooooooo look at mister fancy pants with his new overflow tank and washer resevoir! Need me some of those.

CAI looks good, though I'd rather see actual reinforced silicone connectors in there. Good job on the fabrication though.

Do you tune your own chips? If you ever want some tuning done, all you have to do is drive to West Des Moines and we can work on it.

Hey bnoon. No I dont burn my own chips but I have wanted to have one done. Would love to get together sometime for some tuning. As for the overflow tank and washer tank, my overflow tank developed a crack at the bottom of it at the beginning of winter so I had to order a new one. Since I was getting this one, i figured I might as well get a new washer bottle as well.

Did you order the tanks locally, or have them shipped from some place online? Price? Part numbers?

I ordered them through classic industries. I believe the part numbers were these

Overflow tank 82-88 G6353 15.95
89-92 G6354 17.95
Overflow New Cap 82-92 G7149 7.95

Washer bottle 82-87 G2116 20.95
88-92 G6314 28.95
Washer bottle Cap 84-87 G5037 3.95
88-02 G8312 5.95
Washer bottle fluid Screen 88-92 G7034 11.95

all of these part numbers and prices are directly from Classic Industries new catalog for 1967-2002 Firebirds and Trans Ams. Hope this helps.

Hey bnoon, are you going to be at the f-body meet this july 16th down in Norwalk? I was there last year and I plan on being there again this year and hope to have something new to share on my car by then but until then I will keep it a little secret. Let me know.

Your CAI looks great! I have been working on the same thing for my GTA for the past week or so and I have a question for you. Where your MAF is connected to your polished aluminum that is a simple 3" to 3" connector correct? I notcied where your tubing runs down through the hole you cut you have the same 3" to 3" connector that I have, is that the same as the ones you used to connect the MAF? Did you makes the ones around the MAF shorter so you could see more polished aluminum?

Thanks!

The connectors that go to the MAF is one 3" to 3" connector cut in half so that half is on one side and half is on the other side. That is all that I did for mine.

I love what you did man. I have been wanting to do the same. Where did you say you got the tubing from? Lowes? Also did you have to move your Charcoal canister?
