stuck on hot start cure tech article.

hey folks I just spent a few hours troubleshooting this hot start cure and am stumped. the acc and battery cable are on one terminal (top) and the bottom is attached to the starter. The left (they are not marked r or s, so i cant tell) terminal has a purple wire (ignition?) and the right has no terminal (weird).

i bought extra 4' battery cable and a wells solenoid that costs me $19.00 not 4.99 like claimed.
On the solenoid the S and R are defined clearly but the Battery terminal isnt. Theres a long terminal and then theres a short terminal. So I am unsure of the battery terminal.
On the old solenoid, i jumped the terminal with that previously had the purple wire (ignition?) to the battery terminal.
I hooked up the new battery cable on the orig solenoid terminal to the new solenoid's short terminal.
I then hooked up the original battery cable to the long terminal on the new solenoid and battery.
The acc were connected to the long terminal on the new solenoid (one that goes to battery). I tried hooking up the purple wire to the R and then S terminals on the new solenoid.
the solenoid was grounded.

When i turn my key all the way almost to start, I hear the fuel filter priming so i know there is current. then i turn the key and nothing. nothing at all. But the new solenoid did get hot. is that normal? So my starter wont even click. Can someone please tell me where i went wrong? please help this heats taking its toll

Sorry I can't be much help because I don't know the specifics of your solenoid, but if its the same as every other GM solenoid made since about the late 60's early 70's, looking at the back of the solenoid as installed, the batt terminal is the large one at the very top center, while the "S" (start, R=Run) is where the purple wire goes.

Again assuming "standard" starter, you hooked up the copper strap that comes out of the starter behind the solenoid as well.

Been awhile since I had to mess with a starter (hooray) but hopefully this gives you a bit of insight. Surprised no one else has a starter lying around or ideas for you. Good luck!

If the gm solenoid's large nut is the battery terminal and the one with the purple (ignition) is the S, does any one know if i should just leave the purple wire on the S on old solenoid? I tried jumping the battery terminal with the S terminal, having the purple wire hook up to the new solenoid but that didnt work.

What do you mean, hook up a wire to the back of the solenoid. Doesn't the inside just pop out?

Also, if the solenoids (both)'s large nuts are for the battery terminals...then which terminal would i connect the old GM solenoid to the new one? (large nut connects to battery in new one_)

Please Folks I just bought this stuff from autozone. I really want to get this to work or else I'll return it if its too late.
would it be worth just doing the relay instead? Less hassle, but what does it do to the solenoid to start it even when its too hot to start?
