POP! sound through exhaust at idle
I was trying to imagine in my head what would make a pop sound at idle but wasnt sure. its a LB9 305, it idles fine and every here and there there is a random pop out the exhuast. maybe 1-3 per second. not very loud but louder than normal combustion. it doesnt seem to effect performance, but is this common? I think old plugs and wires might do this?
i dont think its the problem, but my y-pipe has rusted enough to seperate from the catalytic converter, the pipes still line up, but technically they are totally separated. some kinda backpressure stuff doing on possibly??
thanks

could be an intermittent misfire.

when I had an odd poping sound out of my exhaust, it turned out to be a rocker that was loose and I guess wasnt opening or closing that paticular valve. I tighten it down and the pop went away.

the thing is is that it is random and doesn not follow any pattern, like every 8th pop is a loud one, its not like that. and again not real loud, but now that i think about it being a missfire that might make sense.
if a cylinder missfires and does not burn the gas in it, that gas will combust either when it is pushed out in the maniflods or at the next spark right, i guess that would make a sound like im hearing.

A few of my plugs got fouled this year causing a misfire. I also had that "pop" once in a while when it was idling.
