Yet Another Idle Problem
Yet Another Idle Problem
I've been searching on the boards for similar problems and I can not find one similar to mine. Maybe it's my eyes being very tired from reading multiple threads
ME EYES AER BUGGIN
My Z had been sitting for a few months. I went to start her and the idle would stumble bad, idle would go up, then fall on it's face. the rpm's would drop and almost die, then shoot up to 800ish, then down to 400 or less, then die. I also noticed the car is running very rich. Now, If I were to feather the throttle for about 1 minute, the car would finally idle OK and not stumble at idle. But as soon as I shut the car down and restarted it, it would ilde like crap and stumble at idle once again????
Now, I cleaned the IAC motor. When I put the pintle back in, I felt it "pop" and then installed the IAC to the throttle body. I am a little unsure if the placement of the pintle was correct or not. Everything I"ve read states to wiggle the pintle back in place.
IS THE PINTLE IN PLACE when it pop's into the gear?
Another thing is that when I set my min. air, my car was running @ 400-450rpm's in Drive. I shut the car off, connected the IAC back up to the wire that goes to it. Started my car and not much change. I read that after i adjusted teh min air, the idle should go up to 600 rpm's, mind did not?? I then adjusted the throttle body so my Z would Idle at 550-600rpm's in Drive. Now, if I start it and do not put my foot on the throttle at all, the idle bounces between 750-200 and want's to die for about 10 seconds, then idles ok. If I put my foot on the throttle a little and help it along, it start's up, then hint's it's gonna die, but then righ away, idles fine?
So is this OK, or should I be doing something else? This does not seem right to me?
Thank you for the help!
I've checked for vacume leaks, none. It's a speed density car. Fuel psi is 45. cant think of anything else???

After my Z cooled down, I went and started it again. Here's what's up.
I realized i hate my ****ing car! once it was cold, i started her up and it's hunting for idle really bad once again. My attempts to ajust the min air made no difference! The damn thing is still hunting for idle,
WHAT IS UP??? NO CODES? NO VACUME LEAKS?
H E L P PLEASE

OK, Now the saga continues....
I pulled the IAC out and wiggled the pintle all of the way into the IAC motor. Started my car and now the idle will not go under 1200 rpm's no matter how far back i adjust the throttle position via the torque bolt .
WHAT GIVES?????
HELP PLEASE

Great,
Thanks for all of the help guys!
I removed my IAC and put the car in diagnostic mode. I can feel the motor moving the pintle, but it does not move??? It will move if I push on the end of pintle and wiggle it, but by itself, it just seems to stay in the same position and vibrate? I do not think this is normal???

Sounds to me like you need to replace the IAC and see what happens. Also check the TPS for .54V at minimum. It must be nice to be able to get your car to stay running at 450rpms in drive. Mine won't even do that.

dakleenupman,
Thank you for the reply! Turns out, my IAC was bad, far beyond cleaning. I plugged it in and put the car in diagnostic mode and I could feel the pintle vibrating, but it was not moving. I got a new IAC, darn thing runs like a charm now! I was getting NO codes, just the iac was not able to extend or retract the pintle. I would guess the gears were bad.

Cool. Even though I bought a new one, maybe another one is in order for me too. Maybe that is what the whole thing is, bad IAC's.................not my luck.
