Car Surges Then Dies!

91 z28 tpi speed density

Engine runs fine untill after it heats up (usually) then out of the blue the engine light will come on and the engine will surge spuratically. Most of the time its at idle at a stop sign or light. The service engine soon light comes on right as the car loses power and starts to surge. You can try to gas it but it will only get worse.

Checked for codes, but doesnt save any.
Logged on computer but dont know what to look for.

Not sure where to even start.

check voltage at tps, have ingnition module checked. set base timing. pull the plugs this is the best indicator of how the engine is running.

find someone with a scan tool and take a drive untill the problem occurs. If you are planning on keeping this car for a long time invest in one. It has a lot better info than I do.

From what it sounds like, I have the same problem as you, with the surging and all... how would I check if it really is the ECM?
