oil in my intake manifold

Im a new member here of course, im also new to the TPI engines. i have two camaros and the one i just got is and 86 2.8l v6 and i liked it for the body of couse. but the engine has ran before and when i towed it home it started for a bit and i have to keep it floored to stay started. the guy changed the coil, plugs, wires, cap and all. but i knew thats not what it was. i took off the air cleaner set-up, because smoke was coming from it. and when i looked in the hose and there was oil in it. so i looked further in to this and there is oil covering the inside of the Intake manifold. meaning the car is feeding on more oil than gas. but to my knowledge (well maybe my eyes) the oil was coming from the pipe that goes from the air duct to the valve covers,..

any ideas im stumped, i plugged that valve cover hose off for the time being and i need to clean out the intake...or is the engine toasted,,, ive never looked at TPI cars before...please respond and if you need further info..please email me or send me instant message at klreed87 im on aol...

THANKS

Welcoem Aboard!

The V-6 MPFI is technically not a TPI system. However, your description of the problem seems to indicate that the source is not the intake, but the CCV system. Excessive crankcase pressure will cause a reverse flow through the cranikcase vent tube and into the intake, as you describe. This excessive pressure can be caused by engine wear or damage (worn rings, holed pistons) and/or by a malfunctioning or incorrect PCV valve.

Make sure the correct PCV valve is installed, that it is connected properly to the intake, and that it is clean. If you still experience reverse flow through the CCV tube, you may need to perform a compression or cylinder leakage test to determine if there is engine wear or damage.
