What engine do I have?

The engine is supposed to be an 89 350 but I can find not casting marks. It has perimeter valve covers, tpi, air, and a serpentine system. The sides of block are cast 627. The car was originally a 305. Anyone?

Take a closer look at the left rear ledge on the block:

Refer to www.mortec.com for a definition of the casting numbers.

I think any engine with the casting 627 on the side is a 350. A 636 designates a 305 I believe. If it is an 89 it should have a 5.7 stamped into the ledge shown in the pic above.

Yes, but the heads would work on most any SBC. So that wouldn't tell if the block was stock or not.

Just get the cast numbers like in the pic above, it will save lots of time and guessing.
