Lt1 Intake

I have a 85 trans am, with a 305 tpi. I am machining a lt1 intake for my friend currently. I am thinking about putting one on my car as well. I have a coil in cap distributor. Correct me if I am wrong, but you need an externally mounted coil for clearance on the intake. What does it take to switch from each distributor. Thanks for any help.

You can usually find this info with a search or a visit to John's website I believe... http://www.lt1intake.com/

All it takes is a pigtail wire set from a small cap electronic HEI ('87+ V8 F-bodies, many trucks, etc with V8 too) and an '87+ small cap distributor. Wire it up using wiring diagrams to match up the wires between each distributor... I think someone actually makes a distributor harness adapter too to eliminate the rewiring work.

Or, if you have aluminum welding ability, you can grind clearance away for the large cap HEI and just patch up the holes in the EGR ports in the intake.

I was curious how far to cut the egr ports back, to make the distributor fit.
