86 TA (TPI) harness question
86 TA (TPI) harness question
Alright guys, I am new to this site so please be gentle and patient. I removed my 5.0 TPI out of my totaled 86 TA (along with engine harness and transmission) and installed it into my 90 S10. I have the truck running but after reviewing all my schmatics for wiring (GM, Chilton, Mitchell, etc.), I cannot find a breakdown on the fifteen pin connector near the ecm. Anyone have information on this? I have of course figured out the power wires for the ECM, injectors, etc. but still need to do the finish work for this truck. I even bought the TPI engine swaping book (which helped alot) but the book lacks this information. I also have the coolant fans comming on after start up but all sensors are in perameters using a scan tool. I disconnected the a/c control wires, still the same. I checked complete harness for grounding, etc. , everything okay. I clipped the fan relay control wire from ECM and fans go out. I changed ecm and PROM from my other TPI car, still the same. I even exchanged many sensors, relays, etc. still the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, sorj

It should be in there somewhere. The diagram refers to it as the IP (instrument panel) harness connector. It might be on the page that shows the interior wiring rather than engine harness wiring. Has things like fuel pump, ALDL diagnostic wires, check engine light, neutral safety switch, etc. If you dont see that, I will copy mine if someone else doesnt beat me to it.

As for the fans coming on, it sounds like you're either in "Limp" mode with a bad memcal, or perhaps just a mismatched mecal and ECU. The later model memcals had the reverse grounding fan switch from your '86 ECU and harness and would turn on as soon as the key is flipped, then turn off at what you want to be the "turn on" temps...
Did the memcal come from the same ECU and harness? What year is your other TPI car?

the other ecm came out of the same year Camaro (86) with auto transmission both have the F engine . The ECM s are the same number. The PROMS are different being that the PROM that came out of the Camaro is original and the one out of the TA was an ADS superchip. I even tried a brand new reman from AZ with same results. There are no codes and I have driven the truck and no codes appeared during or after driving.
I looked at the schematics I have and none have the fifteen pin connector listed (they are all driveability / code wiring diagrams with pin breakout for the 86 F engine). I did verify harnesses (color codes, etc.) and they match. Hope this helps, sorj
I just double checked, yes madmax, please e mail me a copy. I would greatfully be thankful, sorj
