Question about 9th injector set up on 89

heres my deal...I just bought a tpi set up for an 87 (edelbrock base, edelbrock runners and ported plenum) can I run my old fuel rail and just plug the 9th inj. on the base and runner or will I have to buy an 87 rail and all of that. I dont want the inj. at all. If I can just plug it what should I use to plug it in the base and runner? I was thinking there was a plug kit somewhere for this.

Thanks in advance for the help anyone might have.

Brad

the best way to go would be plugging the two holes.the one on the fuel rail and the other at the driver side runner.if you were to use the 9th injector you would need to use the aproperate ECM and splice a connector in which would be a step back.Accell sells a plug kit at least they used to not sure if they still do.i myself would rather just weld the holes up.or the cheaper and easier way would be just leave the 9th injector there it's not going to hurt anything ...........well other than you eye sight cause it'll look light hammered ****.

I have an 89, can I use the fuel rail from it or do I have to buy an 87 since all of these parts came from the 87 type set up? I was hoping I could just use my 89 rail and just block up the holes on the base and runner area. Sorry I didnt mention that my car is an 89 on the other post. Thanks for the help so far.

Stupid question? why are you putting a 87 TPI on a 89 TPI motor?

yes you can use a 89 rail on a 87 intake other than the CSI years there all interchangable. even the corvette fuel rails only they exit pointing towards the front of the motor.

I believe TPIS sells a block off kit that includes the plug for the runner and the cap for the fuel rail. Unfortunately, it's about $60.

If you want to save some money, you can leave the 9th injector in the runner and just disconnect the fuel line going to it. I've got fuel rail caps for $10 shipped that plug the back of the rail where the injector line goes.

thanks for the reply jim85iroc, but when I got the parts in yesterday I found out that only the runners are for the 9th inj yrs. The base doenst have the hole so I dont have to worry about filling it then. I understood that the base and all was for that style when I was buying them. Im so glad their not. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Question about 9th injector set up on 89

I found this Thread and a have a bit of a different situation, but it involves the 9th injector and you all sound very familiar with this issue.
I got a 1989 350 TPI and it had an engine wiring harness that had endured years of hacking from the prior owner....so I bought a used harness on ebay last week which the seller said was from an 89, but I now think it was in fact off an 88 GTA. I was just putting it in and realized that there is a connector on the drivers side for what I think is the 9th injector (connector looks similar to the other injector plugs). SO my question is, since I have an 89 with stock computer and stock TPI plenum, will I have any cold start issues If I just leave that 9th injector plug disconnected? I assume the computer being a stock 89 ecm would simply not be sending any signal to the 9th connector anyway since it would only assume 8 injectors, right? The harness is in amazing condition with not a single splice or cut wire so I would hate to have to cut it up just to deal with this 9th injector plug. I also want to make sure that this harness doesn't mean I will need to reprogram the ecm, I saw come posts about that but assume that's only if the computer is from a stock 9th injector car. Please let me know. Thanks guys.

The CSI has no connection to the computer.

The CSI has a standalone switch and wiring that only comes into play when the engine is being cranked over
and is below a certain ( cold ) temp.

The tune on the stock '89 memcal ( chip ) has the programming to add the cold start fuel in place of the CSI under the same conditions.

Re: Question about 9th injector set up on 89

Just to expand/clarify what VetteOz said, your harness is more or less irrelevant. What matters is that if you don't have the CSI connected/installed, that you use a chip tune designed for an 89 car, and not one designed for an 86-88. The fuel enrichment maps for startup are very different to account for the lack of a CSI.
