Before you do that, make sure you WANT to do that. If you had performed a search for the MAF screen idea, you would have already found your answer. You would likely have also found a good number of posts with the words "problem", "error code", and "descreened MAF" among the results.

For an otherwise stock LB9, there is little or no gain to be realized from removing MAF screens and heat sink fins, but lots of opportunity for problems. A 350 is a bit different story, but that is appearently not the case.

All that "free" horsepower you may believe you'll get may come at a significant price. Just perform a search of the board archives to arrive at a decision.

I removed the screens and didn't notice a difference at the track.

With your cam profile, I'm just a little surprised you didn't get another tenth or so, but not completely surprised. To me, on a basically stock 305, the risk of problems is not worth the extra 2HP you might get from the alteration.

I would take these articles into consideration until you get your engine built up some and these mods would make an actual difference.

At the cost of $150 to replace the MAF removing the screens seems a bit retarded.

If it's the same MAF as an 86 I'll straight up trade mine. It came gutted and whether there are perfomance gains or not, I don't really like the idea of them not being there. I drive the pike through Boston atleast once a week.
