383 TPI cam ?
Hello everyone,
I have search and researched and now believe I found what I need, but just want to run it by you guys and see what you think. I am looking to drop into my 1991 Trans Am (SD TPI car) an emissions legal street/ strip weekend warrior 383 TPI (under construction as we speak). I would like some advice on cams!
GM hydraulic roller block w/ 1 piece rear main seal and 4 bolt main caps.
Eagle internally balanced crank and rods.
Wiseco Pro Tru pistons.
Comp Cam 1.5 roller rockers.
Comp Cam roller lifters.
Trick Flow aluminum heads.
ASM long tube intake runners.
Accel intake manifold.
SLP headers.
Built 700R4 trans w/ shift kit.
New 3.23 posi rear end.
Full suspensions.
etc.
To keep my car sniffer friendly, I realize a lot of chip work needs to be done, but I still want to pull the most I can out of the 383.
Yes the TPI and gears are going to stay.
As for the cam, I was thinking Comp Cams XTREME ENERGY HRC cams.

Part #: 08-503-8
Grind #: XR276HR
Duration: 276 in 281 ex @ 0.05, 224 in 230 ex
Lift 1.5: 0.503in 0.510 ex
Lobe Sep.: 112
Is this workable, or should I move down a notch to the 08-502-8 XR264HR with 218in and 224 ex.
Any and all help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim

I am running a LPE 219/219 which was recommended by them way back. I am running an Accel Superram also though. Your cam isn't a bad choice but with that TPI on there I wouldnt count on it running any better that low 13s. That TPI is a major choke on that stroker. JMO.

I forgot you will need tires as well. A 383 with the TPI and shortie headers makes an assload of torque just no top end. Get it to hook and you will kill people out of the hole, just put juice on it to keep going.

Thanks for the information there, I appreciate all that I can get. I made the choice to stay with a long tube set-up a) because I want to try for now to keep it traditional looking, and b) because I don't plan to rev past 6000 rpm ever. I realize the tpi will be a choke point, but going off of the article from the tpi shoot-out, it shouldn't do to bad on hp and should kill with torque. Yes traction will be an issue, but I did stay with 3.23 out back and plan to run at least 275 all around if not 315 on the rear. Thanks again!

I forgot, not that it will help a lot, but the plenum is ported and gutted out to match my new ASM LTR and the new Accel base matches the LTR's well.

Dude Drive my car lol. Identical Mods except I have the 1.6RR and a 219 cam. The 219 cam and LTR is a TORQUE Monster.
And BTW this combo passed the e-chek perfectly with just a cat and egr with no chip work
Theres alot of guys in the 12's with LTR's If I'm not mistaken theres a guy on the vette boards running 12's with LTR's and a 211 lingenfelter cam.
