Newbie EGR problem please help

My car is a 1989 GTA 350 TPI.I have a code 32 popping up when the car is first started and cold(EGR failure).I disconnected the wire going to the EGR temp sensor and now I don't get a code. The TPI swappers guide is telling me with no code 32 with the wire disconnected , I have a short in the wire or a faulty ECM.The car is idling and running fine. My question is ,If i just leave the wire disconnected what can happen? Can I hurt anything?Would there be short or long term side effects to doing this?

Thanks
Roger

Sounds like the diagnostic temperature switch on the EGR base has failed.
