Injectors Chevy/ford

I was told ,by a very good mecanic, that injectors are the same for chevy and ford. I was at a junk yard and sure enough a ford v6 injector plugged right in to a v8 tpi? Now I Know flow rate has to be right for the engine. But they looked the same. Same thing from a jeep. So are all 19lbs injectors the same???????

If they're rated to flow at a certain velocity, then they probably do -- the only thing I could think of that might be different is the duty cycle, but I don't know where you'd obtain that information.

Most fuel injectors use standardized connectors and universal fittings. Thirdgens use Bosch-style plugs, which is the same as many Fords, Jeeps, etc. I've heard of people swapping Ford SVO injectors into their Thirdgens, but I'm not sure of their flow rate.

Yea that sounds so unlike the big 3 (chevy, ford, dodge ) !!!!! I was told to buy ford 19lb because there cheeper. I have no deep seated need to use a ford part!!! But I am still amazed they are the same part. Thanks for confirming my junk yard test!

Well, they are not the same part, but they are interchangable.

Chevy injectors for the 305 TPI are rated at 19#/hr, while the 350 TPI injectors are rated at 22#/hr. Fuel pressure at 43.5psi.
The LT1 cars got an injector rated at 24#/hr.

Fords injectors are rated at 19#/hr or 24#/hr for most of their 305s or 350s. This flow rate is measured at 39.5psi fuel pressure.

FWIW: I am running Ford's 24#/hr injectors in my 395 stroker at 52psi. This is with the stock TPI fuel rail.

I have also been told to use the stock O rings instead of the ford ones. Mostly for ease of fit? Dose this sound right also? So I may also need to retrim my fuel presure as needed.

I don't think it would matter that much, unless the non-GM injectors had an outside diameter that was different than the GM fuel rail (unlikely IMO, since the injectors are of a standard form factor).

Don't forget to lubricate the O-rings before you install them. I like to use a light application of white lithium grease.

just BTW: the reason, why so many fuel injectors of different manufacturers are the same style is, that the multipoint fuel injection systems were developed by Bosch in the late 70ies

When i did troubleshooting on my TPI Caprice (with 89 350 TPI setup) i used injectors from a VW VR6 engine for testing.

actually the duty cycle and pulse width are controlled by the PCM

Good point about the duty cycle... I've been reading so much on fuel tuning in the ECM that I've forgotten the most basic of things .

You have to know three thing if its a bosch style injector, Lbs. per hour, psi measured @ and high or low impedence.

Since when does ford make 305's and 350's

Cough 302, cough 351
