maf sensor?

ok when i first got my car about 6 months ago the check engine light would come on (code 33, maf sensor) if i shut it off and restarted it the light would go away and the car would run fine, today i go to start it and the light came on for the first time in about a 3 months, try to restart it about 10 times and it would still run like crap,i go knock on the maf with the car running, it still ran the same, unplugged it and it still ran the same, does this sound like the maf is shot or a wiring problem?

thanks in advance

It could potentially be a MAF Power or Burnoff relay, fairly common problem on these cars. They are a 10 dollar part and are interchangeable. Happend to mine, 20 dollars later and the car runs like a champ.

$300? Maybe in 1986. Last time I checked it was around $800 or $900.

Your best bet is to buy a used module. This is assuming you can narrow your problem down to the module.

Eithers either the module or the MAF, either way its gonna get expensive. See if you can borrow one somehow to avoid fixing things that aren't broken.

Might almost be cheaper to upgrade to an 86 setup eh?

Its fairly easy to do, I didn't even try and start mine on the 85 setup.

Here is some good info on the swap

http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap/

`165 ECMs are dirt cheap, and pretty common, the new MAF would be the most expensive part of the upgrade.

Sorry, I didn't know that there were aftermarket ones available. I know the ACDelco version is near 1 grand.
