here is what my intake looks like now, sucks huh? im thinking this killed my mass airflow sensor too cuz once the car is warmed up it idles real bad if i shut it off. like the other night i was in best buy for 20 mins..came out and it sounded like it had a big cam in it or something...lol..makes the belt squeel too...but...im still tracking that problem down...

You really need to get a filter housing in front of the MAF.

If your question is: "Should I run an air cleaner?" then the answer is yes. Should take maybe 5 minutes to fab something up with a cone filter and some ABS piping.

RE: no air box

Check out the tech articles. The Firebirds have the same clearance problem (lack of) so they can't run over the rad support either. Most run to the R with a slite relocation of the charcoal canister and a cone filter.

the problem is when i tried 2 make an intake for it to go 2 the right the mass air flow sensor is real long and also theres a radiator hose in the way. if i go down theres belts (mines an 85 so its got like 3 belts on it) and i cant go up cuz it wont clear the hood

my hood is an aftermarket hood but it looks like the origional exept the fact that in front of it theres a big buldge and thats why the guy cut mine out.

The stock firebird intake pipes are no higher than the upper radiator support.

You can try looking at an SLP cold air intake setup. If nothing else, you can see the stock air ducting you would need from the junkyard. Also, the MAF isn't s'posed to be right there at the TB, it's in the middle of the air intake (at least on my 89). I think you can find the 2 or 3 pieces you nees for a song if you have the time to scavenge for them.

Buena Suerte.....
