Want to upgrade my cap and coil...what to get?

I'm currently running MSD igntion...and now I would like to upgrade my cap and coil...especially since the cap and coil are original. I've seen some MSD products in JEGS and would like to order from them...but I'm unsure what to get. I was recommened to get the MSD "Blaster" coil..but there are several different types. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

nothing i have used is better than the stock GM coil.. ive used MSD (failed in 3 months) and Accel (failed in 1 month)

1992 stock GM coil.. still going strong..

and im not the only one who has had MSD problems.. tons of guys have had problems with their coils.. and crappy 6AL boxes.. that damn box was the root of my non existing power above 3500rpms..

for a cap.. eh.. Delco.. or Conrad

it looks like there are several types of "blaster" coils. Which one do I get?

I believe that is the same one that I have. MSD offers a direct replacement coil that will connect to the factory wiring..

I have the same coil.......it will plug right in , same as the stock one. But i bought a harness when i used my MSD 6A box with it. You can wire it up yourself, but i didn't want to mess with it.

Ok, I know what you mean....I also bought the harness when I installed my MSD box, just wanting to make sure before I place an order. Now, how about that dist. cap?

Then you should be good to go as soon as you get it. One tip though...I thought the mounting bracket they give you is rather cheap. So i drilled out the rivets on the old coil and reused the stock brackets.

I run a GP Sorrenson factory replacement, works fine.

I reused the factory bracket (same as others), drilling out the rivets and grinding a little to clear my Edelbrock TPI base. I use the specific MSD coil for this application (MSD-8226), although I have to admit this is my second MSD coil. I did have the first one fail rather soon, kinda disappointing. For the second replacement MSD coil, I painted the exposed coil core surfaces (bare metal) with electrical varnish (glyptal), to keep the surface rust down and seal the internals against moisture, etc, hopefully make the coil last longer. I used a separate ground strap to provide a good grounding connection from the coil to the firewall surface grounding point. Sofar, so good.
