Alternator Bracket
I know I may get crucified for this, but I'm gonna post this anyway. I have a 350 TPI out of a 92 Firebird and am putting it into my 93 YJ. I had a problem with the stock alternator brackets in that they mount to the cylinder heads using the header bolts. The headers I'm running will not allow this. What other brackets are available? where to buy? I have about 13.5-14" of clearence from the top water pump bolts to the hood. I will not be running the air pump or ac, so all I have are the crank pulley, water pump, ps pump and alternator to mess with. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have found getting info/advice on this particular engine challenging.

A 92 TPI uses a serpentine accesory belt system. There is only one support bar going back to an exhaust bolt on each side- one off the back of the A/C compressor and one off the back of the alternator. Those must be some funky headers that they can't clear that support bar coming in from the top/front! But shoving a small block into a Cherokee (YJ?) is an unnatural act to start with, so I'll cut you some slack there.
Why not play a little "cut-n-paste" with the stock support bar? I usually mark on the bar where there's interference, take off the headers (or whatever's in the way, temporarily), bolt the bar back in, weld onto the bar a connecting bypass (half-moon, arc, whatever) around the area of interference and then cut out the area of interference. You end up with a part that's still a perfect fit from mounting point to mounting point but with a nice "chunk" taken out of it to clear the problem area. Make sense?

Thanks for the info. The headers are custom made for a 350 into a Wrangler. I have seen alternator brackets that mount the alternator more in the center of the engine, but I'm wondering if that is only on TBI and carbed 350's. If all else fails it will be fabricating time. Also, I'm planning on running V-belts to avoid a tensioner and custom length serp.
