Forgive me but...

I have another head question (FYI - I did do many searches ).

I am currently shopping for a set of aftermarket heads for my 89 350 TPI. I see that many forum members have chosen either the World S/R Torquers or the Sportsman II heads.

After looking in Summit, I noticed that neither had Steam Holes Drilled nor did they have the Heat Crossover.

So my dumb question is this: Will these work and be 100% compatible with my TPI setup (sensors, EGR, etc)? Or are the steam holes/heat crossover required?

It seems the only heads I can find that are not too expensive and are 100% compatible are the Edelbrock heads. However, I'm wanting to stick with cast iron.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Steam holes are only for the Chevy 400 block. If need be you could just drill them. No big deal.

if want iron, you could go dart heads. iron eagle platinums are good heads i hear and you can get them cheap. pro topline has some iron heads too i believe

with those heads, i dont think it has a EGR crossover. so what u can do is run the corvette style EGR by running a tube from the header to the manifold EGR.

problem is that if you still have a stock fbody base, it doesnt have provisions for the corvette style. go on ebay and find a corvette manifold for less than 60 bucks and swap it out or better yet, buy an aftermarket TPI base/runners to really gain from the heads.

scoggin dickey performance parts has the EGR kit for their vortec heads system but will work with any heads. if you want cheap but good performance, try gettin your hands on a vortec TPI baseplate and their vortec heads. for 1200 bucks i believe they sell the package together, complete heads and base and EGR kit. not a bad deal

I've purchased a TPIS Big Mouth intake manifold and am planning to put it on when I put on the new heads.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "so what u can do is run the corvette style EGR by running a tube from the header to the manifold EGR."

?

Thanks for the reply!

corvette TPI's did NOT have egr crossover from the heads. they got the exhaust gases for EGR from the header tube.

so if you are going to run heads that dont have the EGR crossover passages like stock iron L98 heads and most aftermarket smog legal aluminum heads, then you can still have EGR but need to use the corvette style. basically an extra tube coming off the exhaust manifold/header and running into the rear of the intake manifold and thus going into the EGR valve. all aftermarket manifolds are set up for use with both corvette TPI cars and fbody TPI cars

So the World Sportsman II, Dart, etc heads will work on my car, I just need to hook-up the EGR kit from Scoggin Dickey (or whoever)?

Will this effect my current EGR plumbing? My car has the AIR system and all the EGR hooked-up.

Does anyone have a pic that shows how theirs is hooked up?

Thank you very much for the info!

I have been trying to figure all this out for a while.
