87 Chip in 88
I want to buy a chip and it is from an 87 with the cold start injector. I have an 88 without cold start. Will it work? Both cars are L98 700R4 but Hypertech shows 2 different part numbers.

It'll work... if you don't like your engine or care about it breaking down. Define "work" because lots of thing's work but not very well.
I personally wouldn't even try it although I was pretty sure 88's had the cold start injector
and were running $32 mask in a 165.
If it's an 87-88 bin it won't work well in an 89. It'll run REALLY lean on start-up because the cold-start will be expected but not there and since cold-start is usually open loop the ecm will have no way to compensate for this except to try and use stall saver to keep the engine running. Trust me, it won't work very well. May I ask why you want to buy a chip and not do your own?

Agreed. Whatever you were planning to spend on the HyperScrap PROM, spend it on a MEMCAL adapter (www.moates.net or similar) and a PPII, and burn your own. You can even find the HyperTech binary files on several sites, and see just how minimal the changes are.

The chip I was gonna buy was only $50. I have a Vats problem. I just thought it would be a fix and a upgrade, regardless of how minimal of an upgrade. If anyone can help me with this please do. The vats problem is in an 89 formula 350tpi 700R4. I also have an 88 350tpi 700R4 Iroc with nitrous that I would like to perform better if possible.(stock prom)14.2 without nos 13.1 with All mods are 3in Flowmaster Catback(No Cat,Smog) Msd box coil, and wires, 4.11, and K@N filters.

sounds like your running too much gear on that iroc... you getting traction with 4.11's?
Anyways the 87-88 chip swap thing isnt going to work. Dont waste your 50$

I can launch the car pretty good but if I had slicks it would be awesome. This gear gave me 6 tenths and I'm very happy with it. I have a best time of 13.01 with nos, gear, and catback system. You can not just step on the gas and hit the button in this car, a car is only as fast as the driver.

what rpms are you hitting the traps @?
Id just think that 4.11's would be too much on any auto tpi car... esp a 350 which would be choked out by tpi even earlier

I can't remember exactly what rpm but it is not close to redline. I would cross at the end of third with the 2.73 and nos. I would say somewhere around 4400 with the 4.11. I will scan some time slips and post them if you would like some exact numbers.
