hi all, i've been searching threads,but not really coming up with the answer,on my 305 TPI (car in sig) the idle is too high,cold or hot really doesn't change,factory tach saying @1250 ,sometimes when warm enuf,while stopped at redlight i can rev it and it will come down to @1000 but go right back to @1250,the tach may not be real accurate,but the engines sounds like the tach is close,now starting to get SES light,sometimes comes on within 5 minutes of start and stats on the whole time driving,then sometimes it comes on,and goes out occasionally?? doing the paperclip test (engine was cold/sat about 6hours) got codes: 12,shows diagnostics working,then code 13,43,44 ,when doing this are you suppose to hear a noise like a fan is running??i believe my mileage has dropped dramaticly,@ 12 mpg in town,sure am missing my IROC should i go ahead and change the o2 sensor(13,44) or is the car just staying in open loop all the time,i can't seem to find a vacuum leak anywhere,and everything seems to be connected ok, sorry for long read,but any info is appreciated

 

in my camaro sevice manual,all 3 of the codes it's pulling are under the intermittent classification,i don't have the tools/knowledge to follow the procedure,needing a logical step in figuring this one out?,if it is in open loop the ecm does or doesn't control idle,is the TPS out of adjustment?the throttle cable not adjusted correctly??

code sheets show ESC(electronic spark control) which in turn knock sensor,but in autozone codes show as TPS out of adjustment which would explain my fast idle problem,would the code 43 from GM ESC knock sensor cause it,or is it the TPS?

 

it is your TPS your suffering the exact same thing i am right now lol i have my moms boyfriend out there workin on it lol.

Demonbird - Hwcoll's car is an SD TPI. The TPS on SD cars are NOT adjustable and under no circumstances should someone make it "adjustable".

Hwcoll - high idle is often a sign of vacuum leak, especially with the O2 sensor codes you are getting. It might be a gasket has gone somewhere on the intake (there's lots on a TPI car) or one of the rubber hoses from the vacuum ports maybe cracked.

You sir have a vac leak. Look harder. Check the orb of power and the HVAC controls. Can be hiding well. I like a non lit propane torch or starter fluid or TB/carb cleaner for finding vac. leaks. What did you use and how did you check?

 

does seem like the next logical step,a piece of rubber hose and visible inspection are to no avail,but will have to spend more time on it,like the moron i can be i cleaned the TB and blades with carb cleaner while doing the visible,while shaking the carb cleaner,i got droplets on my headlight pockets, now more work to be done,i think i can just sand it and repaont those 5 little spots,also need to go ahead and pull the IAV valve and clean all that also

 

While you're in there, clean the throttle body where the IAC was residing. You might also want to clean the PCV. If you replaced the PCV recently, dig your old one out of the trash, clean it, and reinstall it. The replacement may be wrong for your engine. Been there.
