Starting problems????

It all started one night when I was driving home I put my foot into it going around a corner and the car died. It did not start right away but eventually it did. Every time I pressed the throttle the car would bog and die, I limped it home and parked the car. I started it the next day and the car sputtered and then died?

I changed the gas filter first and then changed the fuel pump because its original with the car (1991). I could not start the car after all this was done. It has been over a month since I started it last and it would not start. I decided to let the motor get warm by putting a heater blowing on the motor and charging the battery and it started first crank. It idled perfectly for about 20 seconds ant then died again. The only way it would start again is by pressing the gas pedal and cranking and then it started and idled rough and then was fine after it warmed up. I let it idle till the fans came on a couple times and then shut the motor off.

I went out and tried to start it and it wont start at all now? I did a search and cleaned the iac and still no luck. Any ideas of this problem would be greatly appreciated. The cap, rotor, wires and plugs are fairly new, I know the heater was a stab in the dark buy I had my 20 seconds of fame!!

Start with the easy stuff, did the ses light come on, if yes, what are the codes?
Check your fuel pressure (new doesn't always mean it works right), check all your vac lines and hoses, try a different map sensor if you have a spare.
How old is your ignition coil and module?

If it was my car these are some of the things I would check out first.

My car was sorta doing the same thing. I didn't have a problem starting it, but when I tried to give it gas it would bog down and die. My problem turned out to be a bad injector.

Ok I checked for spark and its strong, took out the fuel line going to the fuel rail and the fuel came out strong. No codes from when it was running or engine light was on. I checked to see if the power was going to the injector and it was sending a signal? It is a 1991 GTA 305 with a 5 speed. I also changed the coolant temp. sensor also.

Thanks for all replies!

Did you check the injector harness with a noid light? The light will flash when the injector harness receives the pulses.

Have you tried starting fluid, if it will start with starting fluid then chances are the module in the distributor is bad.

Thanks for all the replies on this and It started now and I need a new fuel injector! I did the following tests:
-Checked for spark, strong
-Fuel pressure test, 51lb
-Checked for codes, none.
-Noid test for injector pulses. blinked
-Charged the battery full.
-Made sure the engine light came on, computer looked good.
-Cleaned IAC
-Replaced temp. coolant sensor.

Next was to take a wire off each injector and try to start it. The first two are fine and then #5 ingector was disconnected it started up. Pluged it back in and it would not start.

That was the same thing mine did. Seems weird how one injector would cause this problem. Glad you got it fixed.

Multec injectors. Gotta love 'em. Suspect them all. Coil failures with these are about as common as dollar bills at a strip club.
