I do , i bought a summit hydraulic flat tappet cam for a 1986 305 tpi engine. I started the new engine a couple of weeks ago but i havent tried it more than that due to the snow.

Heres a link for more info https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=326557

Summit

I run the Summit 214/224 flat tappet cam in mine. It pulls up to and over the 5K range. I am far more satisfied with it than I ever thought I would be.

Yeah I ran that cam in my 86 IROC as well. It idles pretty aggressively IMO, sounds great (I had it set to idle around 700ish rpm in park I believe, around 650ish in gear). Revs well past anything it would do with the peanut cam, it was definitely a GREAT mod to do to a peanut cammed car.

I had that cam with headers/3inch cat/flowmaster catback, ported plenum, shimmed FPR (FP bump about 5 psi), and ADS chip (came with car, only makes any tune changes at WOT I believe) and a rebuilt tranny w/ a 2000ish rpm stall and 3.42s out back. Ran great IMO for a 305.

It was making around 250ish hp if I had to take a guess based on how it ran against other cars.... Took out quite a few stockish 5.0 and early 4.6l Stangs. I passed it down to my younger brother about 2 years ago. About a month ago I purchased a bone dead stock 94 Z28 with the LT1, an A4 w/ 3.23s. We ran em to see how the old IROC would stack up, it lost by about 3 carlengths or so up to about 90mph to the LT1. Not bad but I was frankly hoping it would have been closer for the 305...

No I sure didn't. I've been trying to talk my brother into coming with me when I get around to running my LT1 to get some idea of the times but no-go so far.

I'll be betting on some mid 14s for the IROC if and when it gets run but who knows... Oh and I think it has a few ponies tied up in the stock TPI runners and base.

Here is an old mp3 I made of my 86 IROC, please note that is a crappy cheap recorder that I used. You can get a good idea of the idle sound, but when it revs a little quickly (only to like 3k rpm anyway, barely a rev), it didn't capture the sound well at all. Made it sound all hollow or something w/ the flowmaster, it has a nice deep tone in reality. It somehow seemed to barely record the deep part of the sound, kinda in the background or something. It's a real short clip but at least you can get a quick idea of the idle...

Right click and save it, hopefully bandwidth won't die. http://bellsouthpwp.net/j/s/jstriet/IROCexhaust1.mp3

Here is the whole clip that is cut from, just more of the same lame short throttle blips, only a couple more seconds of idling in there. But hey, it's better than nothing...:

Yeah, the car is still running the ADS chip, I never got into the chip burning stuff and my brother has done jack w/ the car so it's as I left it.

I imagine with a custom chip you could tune in a little smoother idle, part of it's aggressive sound is no doubt due to the stock tuning at idle (ADS chip only made changes at WOT I think, not sure). It sounds pretty freakin mean IMO, more bark than it has bite being a 305 though unfortunately, lol.

The cam isn't that much bigger than some of the factory 5spd cams, but I guess it's 112 degree LSA makes it more aggressive sounding at idle. I think all the factory cams had 114 or higher.

I'd be interested to hear from Scania or someone else with this cam to see if their's is as aggressive sounding or if mine was a freak or something.

I think the standard lobesep is 116 and higher so 112 is an improvement and i think its more aggresive at idle now than before the rebuild.

I also have a custom made chip, im lucky to have a friend whos good at this.
