1.6 vs 1.5 roller rockers on an 87 TPI

I understand that the 1.6 rockers put more of a load on the lifters, but with the small 87 TPI cam will I gain more than I lose with the 1.6 rockers? Most of what I see when the motor experiences a loss with the 1.6's is when they're being used with cams over .500 lift, mine's like .404 so I'm sure it should be fine on the springs and such, I'm just wondering if it would've been a wiser decision to go with the 1.5 roller rockers and a larger cam. I've also read that loss can be associated to the push rods hitting the guide plates but that's a non issue with me because I have self aligning roller rockers. Just want some input on what others here would've recommended.

You'll be just fine either way. That stock cam profile is so small that even a 1.8:1 rocker won't cause problems. You're probably gaining as much from the reduced friction of the roller rockers as you are from the moderate added lift and effective duration.

With S/A rockers and holes in the head instead of guide slots, there should be no interference problems. However, as always is the case when altering anything in the valve train, you need to mock up one pair of valves and operate the engine for a full cycle to make sure there is no interference at either the head holes, spring retainers, valve seals, or rocker covers. It's just standard practice.

Awesome, I appreciate the response. I bought these rollers to turn my motor into a full roller, my mechanic did this to his regal and installed an even larger cam than his flat tappet staped rocker stuff and the change was phenomenal, flatter power and the car actually idles decently now. I think I'm keeping this stock cam as well because it's a decent profile for nitrous, guess we'll see how these rollers work out this spring.

As a note I got these from eBay for 136 plus 15 shipping. They're CNC-Motorsport brand 1.6 ratio 3/8 stud narrow body self align (basically built for all modern center bolt valve cover cars), look great; hopefully they'll hold up.
