Getting Ready For First Mod
Hey guys, I will be buying my first mods for my 1987 5.7 TPI IROC soon.
Gonna buy hooker 2055 headers/y-pipe, High flow cat, and hooker 3 inch cat back system.
They car is completley stock so I am hoping this is a good place to start for mods. Will probobly buy the stuff the first of the year. After that I will probobly start looking for a good deal on a accel super ram. What do you guys think?

why are you against the super ram? The main reason I am looking at it is due to it being able to pass California smog requirements.
I do believe the exhaust should be a great first mod though.

ya I wanted to looke into some SFC as well, especially being a T-tops car. But it will all come in time, being in the army is definatley not the most high paying job and as a recruiter I dont have a lot of free time. So this project is going to be spread out of a while. Right now I just figured exhaust first and then when the budget allows I will think about the next step.

I know for a fact they do a visual in CA. When I tried to get my s10 smogged before I sold it they guy looked under the hood and said "I need a CARB number for the Nitrous kit, the CAI, the MSD box" (those were the only things he could see). He said that if I couldnt get a CARB number than they would have to be removed to pass the visual inspection.
CA sucks when it comes to smog laws. That is why everything that I put on the engine of the camaro must have a carb number with sticker under the hood to prove it. I dont want to go through the same headache I had with the S10.

Most states dont even do a visual for EGR anymore. Either way you could delete it in the prom and make the most of the HSR. Id find out if they do a visual before I bought an intake.

They should be able to use a mirror scope for the Sr.. Our cars are test only cars now.. So they can't mess with the Egr for it's function..

In California, they look for the EGR and their computer checks to see if the EGR is working. At least have all the smog equiptment on the car and working. In some areas like on freeway on ramps CHP or the C.A.R.B. people have sensors to check the emissions coming from the tailpipe as you pass by or they may have a check point set up and you can't get around it or they will chase you down.

Gonna buy hooker 2055 headers/y-pipe, High flow cat, and hooker 3 inch cat back system.
I have the 2055s and the Hooker 3" Cat back.
I suspect my cat may be gutted (I'll leave it at that).
It's a great exh system! Some people tell me it's a bit loud at WOT, but that's fine with me. It really sounds awesome when you punch it under an overpass with the T-tops off!!

thanks for all the help guys. I havent bought any of the exhaust as of yet. Been out of town for the holidays. I will be buying it either this week or next week from summit.
What aftermarket cat should I run with the 2055's and the hooker cat back. I heard a lot of good things about CatCo....do I want 3 inch in and out????
