wheres this water leak coming from?!

Hi guys,

ive had a search through the board for this but nobody seems to have had the same leak in the same place.

before xmas my heater core under the dash gave up and started leaking water everywhere so i got a new one, me and my dad put it in, he took off the two hoses at the back of the engine bay, we put the new one in put the hoses back on but it was leaking from the engine bay. You could see this so easily just after you started the car up because steam started coming out from under the hood as it was dripping onto the exhaust !

ive just tightened those two hoses up now, and no steam, woohoo, but too my horror its still leaking, not as bad though, but i cant tell where its coming from now arrrr, we had the car running and had a flashlight on the hoses and couldnt see any water dripping down, but if you look under the car its still dripping onto the exhaust.

any ideas at all ??

for the $ I'd start w/ replacing the hoses. Age and heat combined are hard on hoses. Then go from there....possibly intake gaskets. It's happened before...

leak

intake gaskets...not sure what they are, i really dont know much about engines.

do you know where i can get a new set of these hoses from ? i dont think they are split but you never know. i had the light on them with the engine running and couldnt say anything, but its dripping from somewhere in that region as you can see in the picture where its landing.

Probably the heater hoses. Might start with replacing those if you didnt do that before when you did the core. I have also had that metal tube the hoses connects to leak all over, that would be next if its not the heater hoses.

Net? Not that I know of really. You should be able to pick up the appropriate size hose at your local parts store for at least 2 (or more, depending on your car) of the hoses you'll need, they are just 5/8" and 3/4" hoses. The other 2 are somewhat specialized, one that goes to the core itself (? shaped hose) and the 'bypass' hose ( U shaped hose) at the front of the intake. Maybe gmpartsdirect.com? You'll need some part numbers more than likely for that though, and I dont know what to tell you on that. Dont know of any suppliers on your side of the pond?

autozone/dipcount, but I highly reccomend taking the old ones with you. There are several hoses(bypas valve, metal tube, etc...) so the 16 year old counter kid w/ his honda is usually at a loss to figure out which one is right...

edit - just saw the England part... you can use regular 3/4 and 5/8 bulk(by the foot) heater hose, just loop it to wher it doesn't kink and doesn't get against exhaust or anything...
