cold air intake with MAF

well i finaly almost finished it... few more things then its complete but now i can drive with it on. and this one accualy sucks in COLD air! i used a plasma cutter and cut a hole for the filter to go into..... i was very iffy about doing this but im pretty pleased with it it something if i sell the car i will just weld a plate down there.

incase your wondering i did put somthing to stop the filter from getting wet. its a plastic cover that doesnt allow water to come in and hit the filter under the fender.

one thing i dont like is the clamp i had to use on the MAF to the tube... theres to many hose clamps used here.. ill figure somthing out to clean it up but for now it works.

theres the hole i had to cut... i took out the bracket that held in the charcole canister and then just moved it over with some self tapping screws.... its nice having a plasma cutter on hand at work too. took less then a min to cut the hole.

nvm i have one more lol heres the filter in the fender. i took off the plastic peice that keeps water from going into that area... now i need to cut some vents somwhere and get some more air into there.

intotal this cost me

60$ - K&N airfilter
10$ - 3.25 inch exhaust tubing
10$ - 2 90degree bent rubber tubes
4$ - 4'' to 3'' rubber tube
2$- hose clamps for MAF to tube

86$

and i did it all in a day. and got to play with a plasma cutter!

sounds like its sucking hard! ive knowticed a big differnce at idling now that the MAF sensor is a little farther away from the TB. if i had accsess to a pipe bender all of it would be metal. but i dont!

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. I made a piece of **** intake setup in 15mins one day, just because the stock intake setup looked so horribly bad. But as soon as the good weather comes back, I'll head over to home depot and pretty much copy what you did. lol! That's amazing dude, great work. Having the MAF farther away from the TB helps?

i think theres a difference in having the MAF farther away... not sure because this set up is differnt from the last one... but one of the guys at my work said to move it farther away if im putting a longer tube then stock on there to get a more accurate reading of whats really entering the engine... not really shure how it could be differnt though.
and i got the 90 degree peices at a manards but most any LARGE hardware store will have them.... the 4-3 inch adaptor didnt fit perfect because its accualy made to go around a tube with a 4 inch inner diamater not outer but it still tightended up. thats why i bought all exaust that was ment to fit around a 3 inch diamater so the fittings would fit correctly... i need to some how fasten down the whole set up now too.. not sure what to do but if any one has any good ideas let me know.

I did not get the 4 to 3 adapter I just got a 3 to 3 adapter and it fits on the Throttle body pretty nice and tight....I almost think it would stay on by itself it it wasn't for bumps....lol

Also I do not think having the MAF father away helps in any way.....But I do know that the ABS piping really disapates heat its like a 1/4 inch thick versus having a metal tubing intake....

It goes on the plenum on the V8s although placing it anywhere will work just fine.

Yeah because I have a 3.1 V6 where the IAT is right on the side on the cylinderical airbox, can I just silicone it to the inside of the fender or something?

Really anywhere near the inlet will work, I chose to just mount mine on the top of my cone filter (still inside the filter housing though). Really doesn't make a difference- they aren't extremely accurate in the first place so +/- a few degrees won't cause any problems.

maybe i should try the 3-3 peice instead of the 4 maybe it will fit better... im sure i have one laying around here too!... kinda funny to today at work they just threw out a bunch of 90 degree 3 inch silicone tubing... i grabbed a few maybe ill switch out with these ones. if your making one make sure you post some pics of it! id love to see it. and i asked about having the maf farther away and aperently the air just gets a chance to smooth out after it hits the sensor and flow a bit better into the TB. so basicly NOOO differnce that any one or any dyno could see. now i think im gunna go and machine a areo foil for the tb at work out of aluminum and see how it turns out.
