Heads and valvetrain
I am hoping to start a project on a set of heads and I had a few questions about them. First of all do the 350 heads flow any different from the 305 heads stock? Also are there any tips or tricks to porting and polishing a set of heads? When it comes to roller rockers are there any brands that are better then another and what would be recommended? Does anyone know anything that helps out a set of heads alot in the performance section? What rate of valve springs are recommended for the GM hot cam? Finally I am going with chromoly pushrods is there a difference in any brand or are the all the same? Thanks in advance for your time and input. I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me. Thanks again.

If you are getting the hotcam , get the springs with it . Stock 350 heads are 64 cc and the 305 heads are 58 cc with smaller valves too. If you can port the heads
it's always a better thing to do .
it's always a better thing to do . Yes, the 305 heads are 58cc chambers, as wher the 350 heads are approx. 64cc. - This will up compression, but it won't help. The 305 heads have smaller runners. Even ground out, they won't flow what a slightly ported(bowl blended) set of 350 heads will. - If you talk to the cam company, they'll spec you some springs. As far as pushrods, I like the "Doug Herbert" brand(available from...Doug Herbert). They're cheaper than the other brands, and they're over-stock from the brand names(mine came in the Manley box, w/ Manley scribed on the side). - If you're gonna go through that work, be sure to have the heads cut for screw in studs and guide plates. - As for rockers...if you're building a street motor, everyone reccomends stainless, not aluminum. Aluminum rockers will wear out on the street. - Pace perf. sells C.A.T engineering stainless ones for like $160. - I personally reccomend shaft rockers, but they're much more $. They're worth their weight in gold, and you can just keep swapping them over to what ever combo you're at(as you can w/ roller rockers...)
