failing fuel pump???
OK this is driving me a lil crazy. I have a 88 GTA 5.7. I believe the fuel pump in on its last legs. But am unsure and I would like a opinion or two before I change it out. My problem is as follows. A while back I believed my pump had died. After shutting down the car at home it would not start again. no sound at all from pump. I changed the relay and checked the fuses for a easy answer. But the easy path did not work. Still no pump. I let it sit for awhile till I had time to change the pump, Well heres where I get confused, I jumped in the car the other day and to my suprize it started right up, ran fine till I shut it off. then when I would try to start it again the pump would prime the car would start then die. did this several time before the pump would not run anymore. So I left it alone again. Next day I put on a pressure tester on it and the car fired right up again 40psi. Ran till I shut it off. tried to start it again pump primed to 40psi car started then pressure dropped quickly to 0psi. Did this two or three more times untill I quit trying.
Sometimes the pump works sometimes not... Is this the sign of a bad pump or something else. ANY ideas would be welcome.

Wow, deja vu!
2 weeks ago my 89 vette with a 4000 mile old pump did exactly just that. Once the pump had cooled off it would work for awhile, then cut out again. I threw a FP on from Autozone and all is well. I believe they are made by Airtex which manufactures most pumps out there.

I had a 87' with a similar problem.. Turned out it wasn't the relay but damn close.
One of the pins in the relay socket wasn't making a good connection.
When it doesn't start, try listening of feeling for the relay to click as someone turns your ignition to on..

i have a quesiton ive asked on here before and never got an answer. i think my pump is dying as well. i installed a holley AFPR and after that i would have a bad hesitation (it wouldnt rev it was so bad) at about 5k on the street ant 5k at the track. i turned the pressure down and it went away on the street. but still did it at the track. then i installed some shorty headers and about 3 months later it started doing it again on the street. now it wont rev above 3500 at wot or about 4500 at part throttle. i went ahead and purchased a walbro 255lph pump that i should get in a few days but im hoping its my pump. sound like my pump?

Well Looks like my wires to my relay are really nasty gonna clean them up and make sure the contact is real good. But I ran into another issue. I think I cooked starter silenoid . while trying to crank it up the starter turned over the motor then all of a sudden disengaged the flexplate and was just spinning till I unhooked the battery.
Just my luck. Gonna pull the starter tomorrow then continue with the fuel pump issue.
