IAC/idle tech discussion
For those of you who know me from way back,....I built a new blower motor for my superamed and vortech charged GTA. It was my first complete engine build. Did eveything myself. It was done in may of last year, but ran like crap...I finally got the time to get it running. It's on the road an everthing. Runs well over 1000 rpms. Few questions about the necessity of the IAC and cpu. It seems to be screwing up my idle. When I drop it into gear, the idle drops to 600rpms and the i only get 8 inches of vac, so it runs crappy. Can I open and then disconect the electric to the IAC all together? when i bump up the minimum idle,...it seems as if the cpu want to keep it lower, so my idle in nuetral is only at 800rpms with 10-11 inch vacuum (because of the cam). But it runs good in nuetral at idle. I adjusted the TPS too. I am runnning 12 degrees initial timing right now. any advise on how to get the idle up a little when it's in gear. I guess i could raise the initial timing more, but i don't want to go much higher...it is a pretty big cam for the cpu, like 226/230's duration @.050. I'm thinking holes in the trottle blades, or no IAC or soemthing. ideas?
You need a chip with the idle raised and a more appropriate spark curve.
And you also need to adjust the minimum air on your TB so it will idle at 800 or whatever you come up with that isn't to high for the converter you have.
No holes needed in the blades. Just adjust them open some more. And yes the cpu doesn try to lower the idle.
It is programed for about 575 for hot idle.
IIRC the maf cars only have a difference of 50 or so rpm between park & drive in the program.

what about getting a converter that will allow me to switch to drive w/out dropping RPM's, or wil the cpu still adjust down. Also...i adjusted up the min idle...but the cpu seems to pull it down.
