Cylinder Runners

Which cylinder runners do you guys think are better, the siamesed runners, I have heard these offer maximum performance but sacrifice torque, or the standard type of runner( note that by this I dont mean stock, I mean like the kind that Arizona Speed and Marine make, but I have seen the results of the whole tpi shootout think and I'm not asking for the best runners by company, I'm asking which type of runner you guys seem to like the most/ get the most power/ torque from.

I'm guessing you're talking about LTR's correct? (Long tube runners).

If we were talking about ALL intakes, I'd say more torque down low for a street car and sacrifice the upper HP. For a track car, go for HP at the expense of some torque.

....HOWEVER, if we're ONLY talking about LTRs, then I'd say go for max HP, regardless of application. Unfortuanely, ALL LTRs will end up costing you HP up top, no matter what you do to 'em, but ALL of 'em make good torque. Even the most siamesed, hogged out, ported runners will make plenty of torque, and will have limited high flow numbers. The torque loss would be minimal.

...I have pondered this exact question for a LONG time now in expectation of a motor build soon! I plan on getting some SLP's and workin' the heck out of 'em.

As a lot of you know I have hogged out my SLP runners. They are fully siamesed. With all the upgrades I have done I still have more torque at the rear wheels than the factory 1989 TPI had at the crank. 370RWTQ now versus 335TQ on the factory TPI motor.

I would not mind killing off some of the low end torque because of the hooking up issues at the track and on the street. I guess I could have worse problems.

Arizona Speed and Marine does make a fine runner though. If you go with siamesed runners you will flow enough air for a host of future mods provided you upgrade the intake manifold while you are at it.
