You will have to reprogram the stock ECM. That means a custom eprom. It won't run well at all with the stock program.

Hit the DIY PROM board here at thirdgen.

With little out of pocket costs u can be doing your own chips using the factory ecm.(which to this day, still trounces the aftermarket ecm offerings for availability and funtionality)

U will need to do tuning to maximize your engine NA and than address the nitrous as a seperate entity.

Stock ecm will not compensate for nitrous unless u want to go so far as to get into your own code and the like, which people have done.

Not sure if your planning on a wet or dry kit etc etc.

The megasquirt system will allow you to program your car from your driver seat just like the Lt1s & the LS1 thats Why I suggested it. With out burning a chip each time you want to make a change.

I tune all my TPI's from the pass seat while I log and tune.

The aftermarkets are crutched in friendly versions vs best applicable option.

Not to mention the megasquirt has no knock sensor option as of yet.

This is off the set I am looking at getting for my car

Already there are optional firmware updates (like MSnS-E mentioned above) for the current MegaSquirt-I to add features such as:

Ignition Control, distributor-based and distributorless (DIS) systems
12x12 Volumetric Efficiency (VE) and Ignition Tables
Closed loop boost control
Rev limiters
Shift Light control
Water Injection control
Knock Sensor Input

Car: projects.......
you'll deffinitely need a tune. Any mod should recieve a tuning to make it work to full extent, but 385ci, cam, heads, etc...requires a tune.
- I second the MS. Easier to tune, and no more money than the all the prom equipment.
- Why do you need a knock sensor? Never had one for years with carbs, still don't on mid 4sec(1/8 mile) 10.5 oultaw turbo cars running efi....

Do as you wish :-)

I'm just stating the obvious for aftermarket vs. stock type ecms.

I'll never argue the aftermarkets are more user friendly, they are made for people who dont wish to delve into what is viewed here as the arcane. Not bashing it, I kinda like it actually, just not quite where I want it to be for what I am doing.

12*12 tables are dwarfed by even the stock ecm tables and can and are easily expanded of you run $8D on a 730.

As far as not having a knock sensor, just the change around here from summer to winter fuels and vice versa can be enough to trigger knock, even when running a safe tune backed off a couple of degrees. Or not too mention the tank of bad gas that can and does happen

Swapping 10 wires I can be running a 749 ecm and boost to, I have it already for the future turbo upgrade :-)

I build cars with driveability and ease of repair in mind. When your on vacation or hundreds of miles from home, u cant hit the local GM dealer and do diag or parts replacement when your not using OEM type equipment. I plan for worst case scenarios and part access.
