New Rocker arms or New Cam?
Hey everyone, as you see the size cam that I have is listed in my signature, wondering if I would be best off going w/a new cam to to gain lift or should I just replace my 1.5 rockers with 1.6 rockers? Any advantages/dis-advantages to either option? All technical help is appreciated, thanks.
Changing the rocker arms is a much easier way to increase lift but you need to be careful with your Twisted Wedge heads. TFS wants you to run a custom piston when the valve lift exceeds .510" or so due to the revised valve angles. Changing to 1.6 rockers put the valve lift at .512". You really need to check your valve to piston clearance before runnning the engine.
Consider a cam change when you want to change the valve opening/closing points (duration and LSA) in addition to valve lift.

also, 1.6 rockers will help you if you need more lift, but valve lift for valve lift, if you were to tun a cam with 1.5's that would give you the same specs as yours with 1.6's, it'd make more power. - leverage. 1.6's move the pushrod closer to the pivot, thus increasing the lift. SBC's already have crappy geometry here, so 1.6's make things worse. Ever wondered why shaft rockers are so nice and make so much power? The stand actually move the pivot point further from the spring, thus allowing the pushrod to be further from the pivot while still keeping the same ratio. - Thus taking less force to open the spring = less rotational torque.
