Fuel sending units

I have a question concerning the hookup of the fuel pump on the sending unit. I am replacing a hacked up TPI sending unit. I have a TBI unit and noticed the difference in the hookup. I assume due to pressure. The difference is the TPI has a sleeve like hook up and a reduced end on the tank mounted tubing The TBI doesn't. My question which you may already know is will a TBI work with the TPI? I was able to push the sleeve up on the TBI but it was tighter. Let me know what you guys have experienced. I am planning on putting the TPI back in it. I have also thought about a carb line. This would give me the flexibility to use what ever pump and pressure for what ever type of engine with an external pump.

Thanks.
