I was wondering how my 87 iroc L98 will react to a 4.10 gears. I've heard they don't like low ratio.

If your running a stock TPI those gears are going to be way overkill. What do you have currently?

The best gear ratios for a TPI car would be something in the 3.23-3.45 range, beacuse it will keep the car right in its sweet spot or powerband and retain decent mpg. Say you put 3.73's in your L98. By the end of the 1/4 your car is going to run out of revs, and want to shift into OD. Most people do not want to be shifting into OD by the end of the 1/4 beacuse its not an accelerating gear. 4.10's would be good if all you cared about were 0-60 races, horrible gas miliage, and long smokey burnouts. Great if you don't go over 35 and like to burnout everywhere

Taller gear ratios seem to work better with tpi. My 3.27s work fine, could use a hair bit more gear though, perhaps a mid 3.5x

I bought Richmond 3.73 gears for my 87 Trans Am. I love it. The reason I went with the 3.73, (my stock was a 2.72) was because as people stated. I didnt want to be in 4th gear in my 1/4 mile times. If you went with the 4.11, you would have to shift into 4th gear. But if your going stop light to stop light. Go with the 4.11 gear. One rule of thumb is 3.73 gear for an automatic and 4.11 gear for manual.

I wouldnt put 4.xx in any tpi car. TPI makes its power down low, so why throw high revs at it.

depends on what you want, if you just want quick stop and go car put them in. If you plan on making it a daily driver/ long highway driving, i would not. You'll be paying to much money on gas and you be hurting that motor too.

I had a TPI in a G-body with 350 trans 4:11s. It was very fun to drive but not reasonable for my daily needs I couldn't keep up with traffic on the hyw sometimes. but i also had a 3 speed no OD hahaha
