code 13 for dummies

dummies as in myself, im very new too being under the hood, or bonnet as we would say of a trans am.

my SES light came on so i found out how to do the simple diagnostic with the paperclip and i got a code 13, the pdf file i downloaded tells me this is an oxygen sensor problem.

now usually this is where somebody tells me too disconnect something from the sensor but its gotta be even more basic than that, lol. ive got a haynes manual but my friend who has a V6 firebird currently has it. Ive got no idea where this sensor is inside the engine bay or what to do. Do i try simple things like checking for loose wires, or cleaning the sensor etc or is it a bit more complicated than that ?

if anyone could post a picture of the inside of their 305 TPI engine bay pointing out the sensor and how to go about fixing it i would be very grateful

Scott

go buy a new one and you will know what it looks like.

they are cheap and will also help with your mpg

take the connector off and use the closed end of a big wrench and put the wire through the wrench and get down on it

looking at that engine bay, i would probably go ahead and do a tune up on that GTA. Plugs, Wires, Dist cap, PCV valve. That should help your milage as well.

cheers guys.

battman, my thoughts exactly. i hate opening my hood because i have too look at that everytime i do. the last owner who started the knight rider conversion decided to start painting the engine bay too without masking anything up, theres black paint everywhere and the whole engine is generally grubby.

the only thing ive done so far is put a new airfilter on, ive also replaced a few hoses and a metal pipe which were rusted too hell, i think im gonna put all new hoses on over the summer, ive also changed the oil and oil filter, ive got new plugs, HT leads and belts, just waiting on getting it into a garage to get them done properly.
