Just wondering
Has anybody tried wiring an on off switch for there knock sensor. Just read in GM high tech it's good for a tenth and a mph or 2? Tip said to turn car on and then turn the switch off so while you run, the computer can't pull any timing out. I guess it if it ran into spark knock it wouldn't be good but if it worked it would be a cheap mod.

I'm curious about this because I have some false knock counts that I believe are due to my forged pistons (the increased piston/cyl clearance w/ forged slugs does generate a little slap, not enough to hear but my knock sensor picks it up on hard tip in acceleration regardless of how much timing I am running). I think if you just disconnected the sensor via switch the ECU would go into a limp-type mode. I would be interested in switching the knock sensor off just for diagnostics, not for performance. Still interested in how you would wire this.

The ecm checks the knock sensor on startup only. So if you have power to it on start up the ecm will over look when you switch it off. It only pulls timing when the knock sensor sends signal back to the ecm. So if you disable it after you start it, it should be ok to run down the track espeically in your situation with a little piston slap.
