TBI / TPI IAC valves interchangeable?
Hey guys!
I pulled my IAC out tonight to check on it, and I've discovered that the tip is badly corroded. I don't have enough money for a brand new one, but I could get a used one from the junkyard.
However, I need to know if they are interchangeable or not. I pulled the one out of my TBI truck to compare, and they look very similar. Same connectors, same pinout, and same tip.

Check the length from the fully retracted pintle tip to the base of the threads on each one, and compare. Then check the mounting threads. I believe the TBI IAC is shorter, but that's only from memory, so I might be mistaken.

You're right, the TBI IAC is slightly shorter.
I wound up being able to polish up the old tip, it wasn't nearly as bad as I originally though, then polished my throttlebody & IAC passage as well.
My only concern is if I got the IAC back in all the way. I really couldn't tell. I didn't feel any resistance while tightening up the IAC, but it didn't actually sink in at all when I was wiggling it, just one step into the worm gear inside.
Is there any easy way to tell otherwise? My truck doesn't run well enough yet for me to be able to see if the IAC is working or not...
