wondering about a warped lower intake manifold..

Well ever since the engine has been rebuilt, it burns oil. mostly on start up but notice alittle bit at idle recently too. Its odd, after sitting all night and coming outside the next morning for school..no smoke. I let it sit for two days in my drive way...start it up..it smokes. So anyway ive notice the new intake manifold gaskets are leaking oil on the drivers side..and it looks like coolant on the passangers side...i swear its green but it could be oil on that side too. Before i did them, it was leaking a small amount of oil by the passanger front of the gasket. I know im sealing them well, im using hi tach and that stuff never leaks haha. I also torqued them in the right order and did 15 on all of them..then redid em again with 30 ft lbs. So i think ive come to the conclusion that this manifold is warped or something causing my wierd oil burning situation...

Its very possible.

I have seen it happen on stock and aftermarket bases.

Its also very possible you didnt get a good seal somewhere and its just plain leaking.

Yank it and look carefully at what you pull away.

I just resealed the intake on my 91 GTA. Under 55k and it was seeping some oil and leaking a small amount of coolant.

Very common for our intakes to loosen up over time due to iron heads and alum intake. Water leaks at the front are common as well as oil seepage thru the intake bolts. Always use thread sealer or number 2 gasket maker on them to get a good seal. Also helps out to seal the intake and bolts and let it sit overnite to cure before complete reassembly as well as retorque it after sitting overnite.

U can check the intake and heads with feeler guages and a flatblade(straight bar), if u see anything more than 3 thousandths of an inch u might want to get it straightened.

yea before starting the car, i let the intake sit on the block for alittle more then 24 hours and i used lock tite on the bolts for the manifold. I havent used those tools to check it yet but ill deff try it. If indeed it is warped...is there a way to straighten it..or no?

Only thing you can do is have it machined, and then the gap from head-intake increases so you end up with a possible port misalignment if things are ported. It all depends on how far out it is, if at all.

Try putting in new gaskets first. And change your oil. Oil+coolant=bad.

well ive done it three times now, so i dont think its a gasket issuse. Thats why im leaning towards the manfiold being warped...or something else along those lines.

Well make it four times now.

If you've never checked it with a flat bar and a feeler guage heres your chance.

Or take it to a machinist who can to verify.
