If i take off the airtubes and weld them shut and take out the air pump will that trip a code in the ecm and keep my service engine soon light on? Also what about the vapor canister. taking that out, will that trip a code?

Considering how bad MA inspections have gotten, why bother, it doesn't beget any real power.
air pump that came with motor was seized, and my canister was for a carbed 305 and didn't want to bother with the solenoid one. I'm putting a tpi motor in a monte carlo ss. These are the details i'm running into now. also my smog tubes were broken, and i didn't want to bother replacing.

You can take out all of the air equipment without setting a code or the engine light. Not sure about the vapor canister, but I don't think the ECM monitors that either (just controls it).

Removing the vapor canister will not set a code either, I've been without one for three years now.

The only thing the EVAP cansister does is take fumes from the gas tank and reburns them, it doesnt rob power and doesnt hinder performance to any extent. When you have a less than full gas tank sometimes a percentage of the gas will turn into a fume, and all it does it efficiently reburns it. I've heard people say theyve seen maybe 1 or 2 mpg loss but nothing significant. Aside from just getting the thing outta there to un-clutter the engine bay there is no good reason to remove it. You can remove it, without a code being thrown, you just have to go out and buy a vented gas cap.

I removed mine only because the cold air intake would not fit without removing the evap canister.
