IMPORTANT: NEED HELP!! 9th Injector...
My 88 350 IROC started blowing raw fuel continually, so I ran it in to my mechanic to go ahead and change out the cold start sensor and 9th injector-
They cannot locate a cold start injector anywhere. What do I do for the immediate?? I understand I can get a chip burned? to 1989 350 TPI specs ( I do not have VATS) that gets rid of the 9th??? NAPA AUTO still lists the part number but claims they no longer carry it. I am not familiar with chips or computers at all. Please; What are my solution options,
Sincerely, NITRO

RE:Solving Cold Start Valve....
Thank You Vader, I didn't know, even from all the SEARCH trail I followed that it was an option! But for getting the car out of the shop and drivable: If I already have the 88 IROC car, and thus the 88 chip, I can plug the fuel rail?
Will the car start and run still? Could someone give me a quick description of what the running and starting of the car will be after that???
Also, Is this 9th injector rebuildable? What actually goes 'bad'?

Bypassing the CSI by installing a 89 'chip'...
Okay, I changed the focus of my 'Search' keywords and have a much clearer idea of dealing with the CSI.
- Question: If I am able to locate a chip from an 89' that works with just the 8 injectors, can I then farm out the original chip and have it changed/programed to bypass the CSI and load it for performance gains? (so I can drive the car meanwhile)
~ Lastly, do I need to be sure that the 89 chip comes out of a car without VATS??? Or do I need to just go ahead and buy an 'alleged' performance chip from my local auto parts store to get me through the next few weeks???

RE: chip....
That's great, I'll call them. If I may ask, what makes it a 'Vette' chip? (just basic info)Nitro

Just go to PCMforless.com fill out the order form for an 89 and tell him to turn off VATS. Problem solved and remeber to order the adapter. its only 27 dollars.

RE: Vette' chip
I didn't know if it was a corvette chip being installed in a Camaro that had specific corvette power tuning curves or if it was specific to the vette' automobile....

I've been having a "Rich" exhaust smell and wonder if I have a faulty 9th injector. I recently updated to the 89 style ecu PROM and wonder what's involved in removing the 9th injector. Has anyone done it yet? Anything will help. Thanks....

you can unplug the cold start valve and call it a done. the best way would be to get the 89+ runner and rails. you could aslo find a way to plug the end of your rail and the driverside runner

Re: 9th..../Daniel...
Hi Daniel- Did you get it figured out yet? I removed mine, even though there's the fuse that can apparently be pulled to disconect it. It's not connected to your computer and I certainly did not have to switch out my fuel rails, although mine is the 1988 version and might be a bit different in some way. You can send me a private post or email or even phone if you need to. although there are a bunch of SEARCH hits for this subject, I sure didn't initially find very many that actually explored this issue in depth. Best of Luck, Nitro
